수능특강 TEST2 - 4번 문제가 문제가 있는 것 같네요. 답이 2번이라고 하지만 문제 출제자가 내용을 잘못 이해한듯 합니다.

사실과 가치관(인간의 생각)을 구별하는 것 그리고 우리의 의문들이 가치관에 의해 한쪽으로 기울어지지 않도록 하는 것이 매우 유용하다.(추가설명=> 가치관(인간의 생각)을 부정적으로 보고 있다는 얘기이다)

하지만 우리는 속으면 안된다. 우리는 과학이 어떻게 해서 가치관에 의해 영향받는지 알고 있어야 한다. (추가설명=> 하지만 우리는 잘 속으니까 과학이란 놈을 제대로 주시해서 알아야 한다)

위 글의 요지를 고르라는 문제인데 아무리 생각해도 답이 없음. 문제를 잘못 만든 것으로 생각됨. 답이 2번이라고 하는데 그렇다면 ② Although based on facts, science should be guided by values.(사실에 근거하지만, 과학은 가치관에 의해 인도되어야 한다)의 선지는 위 본문의 내용과 상반된다. 분명 위에서는 values를 좋지 않게 보았고 분명히 values를 조심하라고 했는데 어찌 2번과 같은 문장을 요지로 볼 수 있는가? 말이 안된다. ebs가 실수한 것 같다. 만약 2번의 선지에서 should의 의미를 ~해야한다의 의미가 아니라 ~할것이다의 의미로 보아서 “사실에 근거하지만, 과학은 가치관에 의해 인도될 것이다” 즉 가치관(인간의생각)이 과학에 영향을 줄 수 밖에 없다의 의미로 썼다면 모를까? 그 외에는 답으로 인정할 수 없다.
① Scientists should promote public engagement with science.
② Although based on facts, science should be guided by values.
③ Observation and reasoning should be linked together in science.
④ Scientific advances have become a serious threat to human values.
⑤ It is essential to distinguish between theory and fact in scientific research

This bias is dramatically illustrated when each side in a controversy hires scientists to present “facts” in support of its position. An interested organization not liking the “facts” currently presented by scientists on an issue may hire its own scientist(s), or finance its own study, to ensure that scientific “facts” favorable to its point of view are generated. Having witnessed a plethora of such confrontations, I am forced to conclude that the scientific enterprise cannot avoid being embedded in values.
수특지문 Lest the reader misunderstand, I am not antiscience. Scientific knowledge has been extremely useful to me as I try to understand my world and the way it works. I conduct scientific research myself, and I support many lines of scientific inquiry. Distinguishing facts from values and keeping our inquiries from being biased by values is very useful. But we must not delude ourselves; we should be quite conscious of the way science is shaped by values. Science is not a sacred cow; it does make mistakes; it can lead us into predicaments we would do better to avoid. We had better learn how to control it or it will lead us in directions that have the effect of controlling us.
뒷부분 The belief in the myth of a value-free science has many ramifications. Most seriously, it gives scientists the luxury of abdicating responsibility for choosing their line of inquiry or for the consequences flowing from their discoveries. “Science for science’s sake” is a phrase we have all heard. That assertion is equivalent to saying that science is core value. I reject that assertion because it confuses means and ends. Science, rather, is a means to realize the core value of a better quality of life. If scientific inquiry leads to consequences that diminish rather than enhance quality of life, science, per se, is not to be valued.

(1) 현재의 문제 그 자체로 이상하다는 데 완전 동의합니다.
(2) 그런데, 단순하게 글이 values(가치관)을 좋게 보고 있지 않다? 가치관 자체는 아닌 것 같습니다. 애초에 가치관이 개입되는 것을 좋게 보지 않는 것이 아닐까요?
(3) 이 글을 읽으면서, 떠오르는 몇몇 에피소드들이 있습니다. 오펜하이머(원자폭탄). 과학적 진리보다는 국익이나 애국심에 호소한 그 누구 누구 등등...
(4) '타협'을 보면 어떨까요? 선택지 2번의 values 앞에 good이나 desirable 같은 긍정적 의미의 형용사를 집어넣어준다면...
영어를 잘하는 편이 아니지만 저는선택지 2번 should뜻을 추측으로 봐서고민 없이 맞췄는데 should를 해야한다고 봐서 오해가 생기신 것 같습니다.
values 앞에 desirable만 있었어도...
원문자체를 왜곡한게 심하다고 말씀해주시더라구요
선택지 2번에 should be 를 ~해야만 한다가 아닌 추측성으로 보면 말이 되지 않나요? '비록 과학은 사실에 기반하지만 과학은 가치에 의해 이끌릴 수도 있다'
공부한건데 왜 기억이 안나지...
